Edelbrock's Performer IASŪ shocks feature the patented Inertia Active System (IAS). This exclusive design switches instantly between a soft and a firm circuit for superior handling and a smooth ride. There is no other shock that can deliver this kind of performance. Why? Because no other shock has their patented inertia valve. Now, you don't have to compromise between comfort and handling. Under smooth driving conditions, the Edelbrock shock utilizes the firm or high force circuit. Handling is crisp with excellent vehicle control because this circuit is tuned to control chassis movement and deliver optimum performance. Under rough driving conditions, Edelbrock shocks utilize the patented Inertia Valve and special ports to activate the soft or low force circuit. This allows the wheel to stay in contact with the road for greater stability and safety. Because the patented system has the ability to switch between the soft and firm circuits almost instantaneously, total control over rapid road surface irregularities is unparalleled with absolutely no compromise in handling as in conventional shock designs. |
Edelbrock shock technology avoids the compromises of conventional shocks. Their Inertia Active System built into every Edelbrock shock absorber can sense the difference between the motion of the wheel and the motion of the chassis. Conventional shocks have a fixed damping rate and can only react to the relative motion between the chassis and the wheel. In other words, they can't tell whether the wheel is going up or the chassis is going down. They can only tell there is motion between the two. The fixed damping rate means that conventional shocks will either be soft for a better ride or stiff for better handling. |
Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks have a variable damping rate that enables the shock to apply a higher damping force when it's needed to control excess chassis motion and a lower damping force when the wheel hits bumps, potholes, railroad tracks or any surface irregularities. Variable damping improves handling as well as ride comfort. Here's how. When the chassis tries to lean due to cornering or nose dive during hard braking, a very high damping force is present to keep the chassis very stable. When the wheel encounters bumps or potholes, the damping force falls to a reduced level, enabling the wheel to follow the terrain without transmitting jolts to the chassis. This allows for a very smooth ride and increased traction for the tires because they remain in contact with the road. Edelbrock shocks are tuned specifically for each application and the damping forces are set to be stiffer under handling and softer under rough terrain than conventional shocks. The results: great performance with an incredible ride. |
